Aujourd’hui c’est le 47e anniversaire de l’independence du Togo. Cela est diversement celebre au Togo aujourd’hui.
Me I’m dressed up in Togolese attire today on the independence day of Togo. Even though it’s not totally Ablode (freedom in EWE) in Togo yet, today I’m saying “Ablode!! Ablode!! miexoe looo!!!!!!”

Friday, April 27th, 2007Rough trip to Kansas City
Thursday, April 12th, 2007It’s been a little while since I put something on this blog. Well just for information, Togo under 17 lost the finals to Nigeria by a goal scored in extra time. They did fairly well against a good Nigerian team. I had a trip to KC for a friend’s wedding: man! worst trip of my life! It all started with the Airlines (AA) calling me wenesday night to tell me my supposed to be early morning flight was cancelled and I had to take one that leaves at 12 p.m and make a connection in Dallas to KC. I then had a 3hr flight to Dallas. Once there I was told my 2:50 p.m flight to KC had been cancelled for I don’t know what reason yet. Then They put me on a standby list for one that was leaving at 7p.m and on my request booked me for another one that will be leaving at 10 p.m The flight leaving at 7 p.m was delayed to 8 p.m then cancelled for bad weather (storms and thunderstorms over Dallas). The 10 pm. one was delayed to 10: 50 p.m then to 11: 20 p.m then 12:10 a.m then…. cancelled because the crew had had too many hours of work for that day oh dear! I couldn’t beleieve it. I called their toll-free number to be booked on a flight the next day at guess what time 8:20 p.m from the other Dallas airport called “Love field” I don’t know why because it didn’t give me any love whatsoever! Luckily the brother of my ex-roomate in KC is now living in Dallas and i was able to get his phone number earlier in the day from my cousin and called him. He picked me up at the airport took me to his place gave me a nice meal, we chatted for a while and I slept. The next morning he drove around Dallas just to make me forget a little about my just begun nightmarish trip. Then he took me to the airport around 6.p.m and said goodbye. I then walk through a long corridor to the gate for my flight. I recognized two old ladies that were trying to get to KC since the day before and had the same situation as me. We joked about whether we were ever going to get to KC. then we waited, waited and waited… It was now 8:10 p.m and there no attendant at the gate when we know the boarding should have started already. Well the flight was delayed for bad weather to 11 p.m because the plane that will take us to KC was supposed to come from the other Dallas airport (DFW) and couldn’t get here because of the rain and I wondered why I had to come to Dallas “Love Field” then for my flight if the plane would come from there??? Go figure! Then the flight was cancelled around 11 p.m and they told me they couldn’t give me a voucher for my flight because i already used part of my ticket. Great! I then made a “course-contre-la-montre” with other fellow passengers to see if we could catch a late Southwest Airline flight to KC. After some phone calls and payment for one way ticket to KC i was able to get on the Southwest Airline flight to KC. I couldn’t believe it once the plane was in the air. KC seemed like paradise or a far away land where I thought it was so hard to get there. I couldn’t believe I was on my way to KC finally. uuhh! 54 min later we landed at the MCI airport in KC. Man unbelievable! I didn’t get to bed till 3 a.m. and the wedding was that saturday at 4 p.m. The wedding was good but my flight back sunday was not fun either. The flight that was supposed to leave KC at 5:20 p.m was delayed to 6:30 p.m for I don’t know why. Then we boarded the plane only to sit in it on the ground for 1h40 min because for whatever reason, we had to wait for a “Go” signal from the traffic control! I told myself if only I could get back to Durham safely I don’t mind when. I was suppoed to make a connection in Chicago. Chicago was really windy that night and landing was the scariest of my life. The plane didn’t stop swinging back and forth till we touched the ground. Man ! I made the sign of the cross to thank God we landed safely! A lady seating next to me whose final destination was Chicago wished me luck on my next flight. Well that flight was delayed till 11 p.m Chicago time. I finally got to Durham around 2 a.m monday morning. Oh boy what a trip it was. A never-ending trip. I just wanted to get out a little and go back and see my friends in KC. After all I was happy I was able to see most of my firends (I didn’t have enough time to see some others). But I don’t think I will be flying AA again for an internal flight. Southwest Airlines seems more consistent and helpful. for all the times i flew with them, I didn’t have this kind of trip. Rough trip! Thank God I’m back safely.
